The Center for a Free Economy (CFE) led a coalition of more than 40 taxpayer, free market, consumer, and public policy organizations in a letter urging Rep. Jodey Arrington (R-TX) to advance H.R. 4780, the "USTRx Act." The legislation would create a Chief Pharmaceutical Trade Negotiator within the Office of the United States Trade Representative to combat foreign government price controls and other unfair trade practices that drive up prescription drug costs for American patients.
The coalition argues that Americans should not bear the cost of subsidizing prescription drugs for wealthier countries. By ensuring foreign governments pay fair market value for innovative American medicines, the USTRx Act would help reduce foreign freeloading while protecting continued investment in pharmaceutical research and development.
